Finca la Torre tasting set – 4 single-variety olive oils in the small 100 ml tasting bottle
The Finca la Torre tasting set brings you closer to the great variety of flavors of Spanish olive oils. You receive four small bottles of 100 milliliters each. Each bottle contains a cold-pressed, single-variety top-quality oil from Finca la Torre . Like all olive oils from this award-winning manufacturer, the top oils from the Finca la Torre tasting set are Demeter-certified organic quality. You can look forward to the olive oils of the Hojiblanca, Arbequina, Cornicabra and Picudo varieties.
Which olive oil tastes best?
Of course, taste is always a matter of taste! You have to find out for yourself which olive oil from the Finca la Torre tasting set tastes best. If you do a small, private olive oil tasting with your family, you will quickly notice that not everyone prefers the same oil. Proceed as follows for your olive oil test:
- Distribute pens, paper, small teaspoons or egg spoons and cubes of white bread or apple slices from a not too sour apple among the participating family members.
- Fill four small cognac glasses each about 0.5 centimetres high with the contents of one of the four bottles.
- Label the pans so that you know later which oil is in them.
- Have each participant take turns to smell the first glass. Make note of the aromas that the nose detects.
- Then everyone can take a small amount of oil with their spoon and taste it. In order to taste the wide variety of flavors of each individual oil, it must pass through the entire mouth. The result should also be written down.
- Before the next oil is added, some white bread or apple is eaten to neutralize it.
- Aromas that you can taste and smell from the oils in the Finca la Torre tasting set range from grassy, floral, fruity and vegetable-like, to nutty, and herbal or spicy.
Olives can be so different
Arbequina olives are one of the smaller varieties, as they are only slightly larger than a hazelnut. They are harvested green and are mainly processed into olive oil. Arbequina olive oil tastes fruity and mild. It is slightly sweet and reminiscent of apples and green bananas. It has a very slight spiciness in the finish.
Hojiblanca olives are medium-sized fruits that are only harvested when they are black and ripe. They are often used to make olive oil, but they also taste delicious as table olives. Hojiblanca olive oil is intended for connoisseurs, as it scores with a very intense fruity taste. It is reminiscent of freshly cut grass and green olive leaves. A slight bitterness is its trademark. Overall, it is a very balanced oil.
The Cornicabra is also a medium-sized olive. Its shape, which is like a goat's horn, gave it the name "Cornicabra". It is yellowish-green in color and is mainly used to make olive oil. Cornicabra oil is particularly aromatic and fruity. It has nuances of apple and herbs and is also slightly bitter in the finish.
The Picudo olive, which comes from Andalusia, is large. It is only harvested when it is fully ripe and has a deep black color. Although it was traditionally cultivated as a table olive, it produces a characteristic olive oil. The Picudo oil has a pleasant aroma reminiscent of apples and almonds.
Using the oils from the Finca la Torre tasting set in the kitchen
- The Arbequina olive oil from the Finca la Torre tasting set is particularly suitable for refining salad dressing, marinating vegetable skewers or for cake batter.
- The Hojiblanca oil adds an aromatic accent to light salads. It makes an extravagant marinade for grilled meat or it refines the classic
vinaigrette. - Cornicabra olive oil underlines the hearty taste of roast lamb or pork. It accentuates the natural flavor of salmon and cod. Or it adds the finishing touch to an omelette with fresh mushrooms.
- Picudo oil tastes wonderful in fresh pastries. It complements cold dishes, it seasons the homemade tomato sauce and it highlights the natural flavor of white fish.
